Executive VP PromotedOKC Native Tina Perry Named GM of Oprah’s OWN Network

Oklahoma native Tina Perry has been named the new general manager of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

The changed was announced after network president Erik Logan stepped down taking a position as head of content, media and studio at the World Surf League.

Perry was promoted from executive vice president of business and legal affairs and will oversee all business and creative areas of OWN. Perry will report directly to network chairman and CEO Oprah Winfrey.

“Erik has been a great leader and was the driving force in the network’s turn around,” Winfrey said. “Everyone who knows Erik knows he has a passion for surfing and this is a perfect opportunity for him.

Tina has been an important and valued member of the executive team at OWN since before launch and played a vital role in shaping the network as a member of the board.

I am confident in taking the reins at OWN she will guide the network to continued success.”

OWN is a joint venture of Winfrey’s Harpo Inc. and Discovery Inc. The network currently holds five of the top 20 original scripted series on ad-supported cable among women 25-54, more than any other network.

Perry joined Winfrey’s media empire in 2009 and was instrumental in negotiating deals for “Queen Sugar”, created by filmmaker Ava Duvernay. She also negotiated the overall deal with Lionsgate with included one of the network’s most successful series launches to date with hit megachurch drama “Greenleaf” from writer and producer Craig Wright.

Perry recently negotiated the deal for Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil’s “Love is __” as well as the network’s two new series from Will Packer and “David Makes Man” from Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney.

“I am honored and humbled to be given this opportunity to work with Oprah and Discovery to lead OWN to the next level of greatness,” said Perry. “Having been a part of the network from the beginning, I am excited for all we have accomplished and look forward to continuing our growth.

Before joining OWN, Perry handled business and legal affairs for VH1 and MTV at Viacom. Prior to her role at Viacom, she was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore, LLP in New York. During her time there she represented public companies in connection with public offerings, private placements and general corporate governance matters.

She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, a Master of Science in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford, graduated with Honors from Stanford University and is a graduate of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in Oklahoma City.
