She and King Dismissed As Vice Presidents

LANGSTON—The vice president of fiscal affairs at Langston University has been fired, The Black Chronicle has learned.
In addition, another longtime vice president was dismissed and another staff-member at the university was promoted.
Both the fired vice presidents have been replaced temporarily with interim post-holders.
Angela Kelso Watson, who had been the fiscal affairs vice president at Langston for a number of years, was fired “effective immediately,” said a Jan. 29 “Staffing Updates” memorandum to faculty and students.
Dr. James L. Mosley has been named interim vice president of fiscal and administrative affairs, effective Jan. 30.
A onetime Langston professor and administrator, Dr. Mosley served as interim president of the university in the mid-1970’s.
He retired in 1995, ending an 18-year career as an administrator with the Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Program.
The memo from Dr. Kent J. Smith Jr., president of Langston, said a national search for a new fiscal affairs vice president will begin immediately.
Dr. Mosley will not be a candidate for the post, the memo said.
In announcing other staffing changes at Langston, Dr. Smith said that Charles King will no longer serve as vice president of equity.
Norman Hollingsworth, an assistant professor in the university’s business school and an attorney, will, on an interim basis, provide oversight of Title IX programs and affirmative action and equal opportunity employment programs.
Also, Deshnick Lewis, who has been events coordinator, will join the Office of Alumni Affairs, according to the memo.
Dr. Smith said in the staff changes memo that the move of Mr. Lewis was made “in an effort to enhance the university’s relationship with alumni.”
Commending Mr. Lewis in the memo, the university president said Mr. Lewis “has been an integral part of the Langston University family for many years,” and said he first worked in the student affairs division before becoming events coordinator.
“I am confident that Mr. Lewis will be an excellent resource for alumni and will continue to be an asset to the university,” Dr. Smith said in the memo, which also was addressed to alumni.
