Why UTSA can cover

UTSA had one of the best rushing attacks in Conference USA this past season. The Roadrunners were ranked second with 188.6 rushing yards per game with 4.6 yards per carry and 25 rushing touchdowns. Running back Sincere McCormick has opted out of this game, so the Roadrunners will lean more on mobile quarterback Frank Harris and backup running backs Brenden Brady and B.J. Daniels. Both backs averaged 4.7 yards per carry this season.

Harris completed 66.6 percent of his passes this season and did a great job taking care of the ball. He threw for 25 touchdowns and just five interception. UTSA is also solid on the other side of the ball as it ranked second in Conference USA in scoring defense (23.6 ppg).

Why San Diego State can cover

The Aztecs also love to run the ball. They have found plenty of success this past season and were one of the top rushing teams in the Mountain West. San Diego State is ranked third in rushing yards per game (176.3) with 24 rushing touchdowns. Senior running back Greg Bell leads the charge in the Aztec backfield.

Bell finished the season ranked third in the conference in rushing yards (990) with eight rushing scores. The California native rushed for more than 100 yards in four matchups this season. On the other side of the ball, San Diego State’s run defense was exceptional this season. The Aztecs were first in the Mountain West conference with 77.6 rushing yards allowed per game. Junior defensive lineman Cameron Thomas is a big reason for this. He has logged 68 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks.
