Actor Is Barred From Oscars

LOS ANGELES—Will Smith, who slapped comedian host Chris Rock at the Oscars ceremonies, has resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences and has been barred from attending the award ceremonies for the next 10 years.

The actor, who won the Best Actor Award for his role in “King Richard,” is likely to face even more sanctions or punishment.

A spokesman for the Academy said it will make announcements regarding the actor on April 28.

That could mean the actor could have his Oscar revoked or could receive other punishment.

Now, as a non-member of the Academy, he cannot vote on nominees for Oscars.

He can attend parties and other events related to the Oscar ceremonies, but he cannot attend awards ceremonies for 10 years.
