Illinois quick hits: NAACP president apologizes; online sales lead to armed robberies

NAACP president apologizes

The head of the Illinois NAACP has apologized for remarks she made about migrants. During a Zoom meeting with other NAACP leaders, Teresa Haley said the immigrants are raping people, breaking into homes and are like savages. The video was shared by the DuPage County NAACP president, who resigned in protest. Haley initially denied making the remarks and suggested the video was fake, possibly created using AI technology.

Chicago Police say several people who have tried buying cell phones through social media have ended up being robbed at gunpoint in recent weeks. In at least one of these incidents, the victim was chased by the suspects after the robbery. Police are reminding residents to be cautious when meeting with strangers and anyone with information to come forward.
