WATCH: Gov. DeSantis criticizes birthright citizenship as ‘enticement’

(The Center Square) – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says that birthright citizenship incentivizes illegal immigration to the U.S. and that it misinterprets the 14th Amendment.

At a round table event with President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, DeSantis said that the 14th Amendment’s original intent was to overturn the Dred Scott decision, which denied citizenship to Black Americans before the Civil War.

“The 14th Amendment was never intended to apply to those crossing the border illegally and giving birth in the U.S.,” DeSantis stated.
