Niah Spriggs Announces Candidacy for Oklahoma City Public School Board Chair

My name is Niah Spriggs, and I am honored to be running for Oklahoma City Public
School Board Chair. As an Educator, Entrepreneur, Wife and Mother, I am passionate about the
success of every child. I believe our students deserve a leader who will work relentlessly to
ensure every child has access to a high-quality education . Our schools must address the needs of
today’s students—not just those of the past or the ones we hope to attract in the future.
Unfortunately, many schools in our district are falling short, letting down both our students and
our communities. Better Schools Build Better Communities. Strong schools are the foundation
of safe, thriving communities. It’s time for leadership that is ready to drive the change needed to
rebuild our schools and strengthen our communities.

As your next School Board Chair, I am committed to accomplishing the N-I-A-H Plan:
N – New Curriculum: Designed to close achievement gaps and expand opportunities for
every child, regardless of background or ability.
● I – Increased Literacy and Math Outcomes: Raising proficiency levels to ensure
students not only learn but retain the essential skills needed for lifelong success.
● A – Accountability: Ensuring families, schools, and educators are united in supporting
our children’s success, while ensuring every tax dollar directly benefits students and
eliminating wasteful spending.
● H – Hard Conversations: I will not shy away from acknowledging the challenges within
our district. I am committed to listening, addressing real issues, and working
collaboratively to build effective solutions for our kids.

As an Entrepreneur, mother of five, and public school teacher, I have firsthand
experience in addressing learning gaps and empowering students to reach their full potential. I’m
skilled in leveraging resources and building connections to create new opportunities. Like many
students in the OKCPS district, I was the first in my family to attend college, working multiple
jobs to finance my education. I graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s in
Business Administration in Finance and Taxation, and hold an MBA in Finance, a Master’s in
Education in Urban Education,

Our schools need strong, innovative leadership, and I’m ready to step up and deliver for
our students, families, and educators. I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members
to meet the needs of our teachers and students. Together, we can rebuild Oklahoma City Public
Schools into a district that exceeds the expectations of our families, teachers, and most
importantly, our students.

Sincerely,
Niah M. Spriggs , MBA, M.Ed
