Crisis pregnancy centers declare victory after court ruling

The state of Illinois is agreeing to not enforce a deceptive practices law against crisis pregnancy centers that do not offer abortion services. The agreement announced this week has plaintiffs declaring victory saying the state’s law enacted this summer was a violation of free speech rights of organizations that don’t agree with providing abortions. A federal judge had already enjoined the law, saying it is “both stupid and very likely unconstitutional.”

Some suburbs approve ordinances to keep migrants out of their hotels

New legislation from Illinois Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider would revoke the tax-exempt status of nonprofits that send funding to Hamas or other terrorist organizations. Currently, efforts to block funding to Hamas and other terror groups have focused on overseas work. Under the new legislation, U.S. nonprofits making that same mistake could lose their tax-exempt status.
