Municipal Court Warns Public of Phone Scam

Chronicle News Services

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Municipal Court is warning people who owe money for outstanding tickets to be aware of a spoofing scam that’s underway.

Scammers posing as OKC Court employees and law enforcement officers are calling residents from what appears to be an OKC Municipal Court phone number and demanding they pay their tickets over the phone, or they will go to jail.  The scammer also tells residents that if they show up at the municipal courthouse, they will go to jail, which is untrue.

People who get a phone call demanding money should hang up and call Municipal Court at (405) 297-3898 (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays).  People can also visit the Municipal Court Customer Service Window, 701 Couch Drive, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except city-observed holidays or visit okc.gov/court for an online payment link and other details.

The court offers several options to help people experiencing financial hardships.  These may include payment plans, community service and reduced or even waived fines and fees.
