Get Ready to dust off your tap shoes!! The OKC Tap Dance Festival is just around the corner!

This one is for young an older alike! It’s the annual OKC Tap Dance Festival hosted by Metropolitan School of Dance! The event is a 3-day celebration takes place Friday, September 20th through Sunday, September 22nd, 2024.

The OKC Tap Fest features some of Oklahoma’s and our nation’s most talented hoofers and tap artists! With numerous workshops from beginning dancers to seasoned individuals. Either way, we guarantee something for everyone!

The is held at the Douglass @ Page Woodson and includes the infamous history luncheon (where participants will discuss the origin of tap dance and the styles of dance developed through this art form), as well as the opportunity to see master artists share their talent at the Saturday evening showcase at the Auditorium at The Douglass. 

Dancers from ages 10-adult, beginner to advanced students are encouraged to attend. The festival boasts of welcoming individuals from every walk of life to unite in one common circle in dance creating rhythms with their shoes. Wonder is any of this could be for you? We bet it is and it’s so much fun to boot! Let’s “Make Some Noise!

Whether you’re from your own dance studio, or if dancers are coming from area public schools! If you have a dance program and even if you don’t, join us! This is for everyone who has ever wanted to train in tap dance!

Budding young artists will heighten their knowledge and technique in timeless artform while learning from the phenomenal world renown artists who will be teaching them. This event is affordable and participants can apply scholarship consideration on a first come first serve basis. It’s a unique opportunity to receive stellar training right here in our state! 

The OKC Tap Fest is a great chance to form a common bond through respect, love and acceptance of the many cultures that is Oklahoma through dance. We get to come together as one to unite for a short time in celebration of community, one of communication through movement and in celebration of historic tap dancing.  

What an unforgettable linkeup!! Guests artists for this event includes National NEA Treasures, Reggio (the Hoofer) McLaughlin from Chicago and the 2024 NEA Treasure, Bril Barrett! A powerful tap artist who’s traveled the world teaching tap dance and founded his own organization, MADD Rhythms of Chicago. Other artists include world renown artists Starrinah Dixon, “Cassandra Van Houten, Shadoe Brandt, Ira McCurry from Oklahoma City University as well as Cheryl Homen and Honor McFarland Smith (who’s trained under such artist as Savion Glover). OU’s own Lyn Cramer, Keyna Allen, Megan Roberts (Irish Tap), Baba Stafford Berry, Jr. who’ll flavor the festival with African Dance and Nikael Chiles teaching Hip-Hop, just to name a few!  

This event is for everyone! Who desires to celebrate the rich history of tap dance and form a cohesive bond of respect through the art of dance? It’s a time to elevate our experiences and share in our love of tap dancing and making rhythms with our feet!. Rarely is this seen! But this celebration is here to stay and it’s open to all! The Oklahoma City Tap Festival is for you!!
