Illinois quick hits: Chicago ICE arrests; IHSA scholarships; soccer team plans stadium

Chicago ICE arrests

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have provided information about two people arrested in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood earlier this month. An ICE spokesperson told The Center Square that 35-year-old Jose Juan Rueda Diaz is a known gang member with previous convictions for aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon and illegal entry and 28-year-old Fisel Pablo Morales was arrested at the same time as Rueda Diaz and had no evidence of lawful admittance into the U.S.

IHSA scholarships

The Illinois High School Association board plans to create an endowment to fund scholarships. The IHSA Foundation awards a total of 40 scholarships each year to ISHA All-State Academic Team members and students working as IHSA officials or studying to become educators. On Monday, the board voted in favor of allocating funds for the endowment.
