Nationwide rail safety campaign comes to Illinois

With Rail Safety Week underway, the nationwide See Tracks? Think Train! campaign is bringing awareness. In Chicago on Tuesday, a new blue and white locomotive wrap was unveiled to direct people to emergency signage at every railroad crossing. Officials highlighted the risk of distractions around train tracks and what to do in rail crossing emergencies.

DOE recognizes 18 Illinois schools for excelling

Eighteen Illinois Schools are being recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools. The U.S. Department of Education recognized that 356 schools across the country are excelling in academic performance or making strides in closing achievement gaps. Among the Illinois list were schools in Arlington Heights, Chicago, Dunlap, Elmurst, Frankfort, Geneva, Green Oaks, Naperville and Mascoutah.

Judge sentences man to two years for fencing operation

Federal authorities announced a business owner has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for running a fencing operation out of his suburban Chicago business. Fencing is the facilitation of the sale of stolen merchandise. Ziad Zayed pleaded guilty last year and was sentenced last week. He was ordered to pay $1.3 million in restitution.
