University of Southern California raises tuition by more than $3,000

(The Center Square) – The University of Southern California is raising its tuition by more than $3,000 for the 2025-26 school year.

That bumps up the total estimated cost of attending the private Los Angeles university to almost $100,000.

Tuition for full-time students will cost a total of $73,260 for two semesters, USC said Wednesday on its website.

When the university’s on-campus housing and dining, along with transportation and miscellaneous costs, are factored in, that brings the estimated cost to $99,139, USC said. Costs drop to an estimated $86,581 if students choose to live with their family.

In 2024-25, the university’s tuition cost $69,904.

Tuition at USC is the same for California and out-of-state residents.

The university said total costs, including factors other than tuition, may differ based on students’ majors and circumstances.

“Estimated budgets for some majors may be higher because of special laboratory or studio supply fees, or other additional costs incurred by all students in the program.”

U.S. News and World Report said USC was the nation’s most expensive university in 2024.

But the university, which offers financial aid, noted it doesn’t want cost to prevent students from enrolling.

“While we expect each student’s family to play a leading role in financing a college education, we have a long tradition of helping bridge the gap between the cost of attendance and what families can afford to pay out of pocket,” USC said.

The university is known for its research and its programs in film, business and journalism. Graduates of the USC School of Cinematic Arts include “Star Wars” creator George Lucas and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” director Jason Reitman, son of the original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman. Coincidentally, USC is near the Shrine Auditorium, the former home to the Oscars and Emmys.
