AAA: Drop in Arkansas gas prices may be short-lived

(The Center Square) – Arkansas gas prices are down four cents this week and are 17 cents lower than last week, according to AAA.

The average cost for a regular unleaded gallon of gallon is $2.83. The lowest prices are in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, where a gallon is $2.69. Motorists in the Pine Bluff area are seeing the highest cost at $2.94 a gallon, according to AAA.

The drop in prices may be short-lived, according to AAA.

“While all Arkansas metro areas show regular unleaded gas price averages below $3 per gallon, drivers may soon notice prices creeping back up.” said AAA Spokesperson Nick Chabarria. “Where gas prices head to close out the year will largely depend on crude oil prices and the impacts from any announced production cuts by OPEC+ countries.”

West Texas Intermediate crude prices foreshadow what could happen at the pumps, according to AAA. The prices fluctuated from $74 to $78 per barrel last week. Crude oil is one of the main components of fuel.

Arkansas’ fuel prices are the 7th cheapest in the country. The lowest prices are found in three neighboring states: Texas ($2.75), Mississippi ($2.76) and Oklahoma ($2.71).

The most expensive gas is in California, where a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $4.84. The national average is $3.25.
