Georgia gas prices up a dime

(The Center Square) – Georgia gas prices are up 10 cents and they could get higher, according to AAA.

A gallon of regular unleaded gas costs an average of $3.04, an increase of 12 cents in a month.

The least expensive gas is found in Columbus, where it’s $2.91 a gallon, and in Ft. Stewart, which is a penny higher. The most expensive gas is in the Athens area at $3.11 a gallon and in Atlanta at $3.10.

“We were kind of expecting gas prices to rise in April since that’s when refineries do their tune-ups, which typically bump up the cost at the pump,” said Montrae Waiters, a spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “However, there is also an unpredictable atmosphere surrounding tariffs and their impact on the global stage, which may push those prices even higher.”

Gas prices are lower for most of Georgia’s neighbors with Tennessee having the least expensive average at $2.79 for a gallon of regular unleaded. The exception is Florida, where gas prices are at $3.18 a gallon.

The average national cost is also up a dime to $3.25.

Gasoline demand has dropped, according to the Energy Information Administration. Supply is down from 239.1 million barrels to 237.6 barrels but production is up and averaged 9.3 million gallons a day, according to AAA.
