Illinois quick hits: Fugitives rounded up; gas remains above $3 a gallon

Fugitives rounded up

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois has announced the results of a seven-day fugitive roundup effort by federal and state law enforcement agencies.

Operation Safe Christmas resulted in 63 arrests and seized 2.5 pounds of narcotics and $15,000 in U.S. currency. U.S. Marshals led the operation resulting in arrests in five Illinois counties and Atlanta, Georgia.

Gas remains above $3 a gallon

Illinois is the only state in the Midwest and one of just a dozen in the country with average gas prices over $3 per gallon.

AAA lists Illinois’ per-gallon average at $3.03. The national average has fallen below $2.91 per gallon.

The Land of Lincoln has the second-highest gas tax in the nation.

Cocktails to go permanent

The National Restaurant Association says Illinois is the 30th state in the nation to make cocktails-to-go permanent.

One of more than a dozen bills Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed last Friday, Senate Bill 618 allows cocktails and mixed drinks to be sold by restaurants for delivery and curbside pickup.

The legislation also allows craft brewer license holders to offer rewards and loyalty programs for customers.
