Little change in Georgia gas prices

(The Center Square) — Georgians are paying the same for a regular unleaded gallon of gas as they did a week ago, according to AAA.

However, prices could increase as the conflict in the Middle East continues.

A gallon of gas costs an average of $2.90, four cents less than last month. It’s 14 cents cheaper than a year ago, according to AAA.

Georgia motorists will have to head north to find the least expensive fuel. A gallon of gas in Catoosa, Dade and Walker counties is $2.75 a gallon. Gas is $2.62 a gallon in nearby Chattanooga, according to AAA.

Savannah has the most expensive gas at $2.97 a gallon, followed by Atlanta at $2.92.

“Georgia gas prices saw minimal or no change at the pumps across the state,” said AAA spokeswoman Montrae Waiters. “Crude oil prices fell by more than 1% last Friday. With the Thanksgiving travel now in our rearview mirror, it appears that gas prices are steadfastly continuing their gradual descent.”

National gas prices are at an average of $3.01, a decrease of four cents from last week.

The reprieve in fuel costs could be short-lived, depending on what happens in Syria, where the government has been overturned.

“Russian oil and gas companies have operated in Syria for years adding to the world’s supply. The future of those operations is now in jeopardy,” Daniel Turner, executive director of the energy workers advocacy group Power the Future, told The Center Square.
