WATCH: Trump to declare a national energy emergency

(The Center Square) – On his first day in office, President Donald Trump promised to use an executive order to declare a national energy emergency.

This will be a part of his administration’s first priorities, namely, he said, to make America affordable and energy dominant again.

“I will declare a national energy emergency. We will drill baby drill,” Trump said during his Inauguration Day speech. “We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again right to the top, and export American energy all over the world. We will be a rich nation again and it is that liquid gold under our feet that will help to do it.”

Trump also said he plans to end the Green New Deal, revoke the Biden administration’s electric vehicle mandate, and withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord.

In a statement from the White House on Trump’s first priorities for America, the administration laid out additional actions planned.

“The President will unleash American energy by ending Biden’s policies of climate extremism, streamlining permitting, and reviewing for rescission all regulations that impose undue burdens on energy production and use, including mining and processing of non-fuel minerals,” the statement said. “President Trump’s energy actions empower consumer choice in vehicles, showerheads, toilets, washing machines, lightbulbs and dishwashers.”

Building up America’s “critical infrastructure” is an additional priority, though wind farms will not be a part of that plan. Instead, Trump’s “energy policies will end leasing to massive wind farms that degrade our natural landscapes and fail to serve American energy consumers.”

Many of these actions will be done via executive orders signed by Trump. It is still unclear when those executive orders will be officially released or signed, though they are expected Monday afternoon.
