The Academy announces that Angela Bassett, Mel Brooks and film editor Carol Littleton will receive honorary Oscars at November’s Governors Awards

In the “It’s About Time” category, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the Board of Governors voted to present honorary Academy Awards to Angela Bassett, Mel Brooks, editor Carol Littleton and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to the Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter.

The four Oscar statues will be presented at the Academy’s 14th Governor’s Award event that takes place in November, right here in Los Angeles. You know, I guess the Academy folks realize they really messed up this year not voting for Angela to win the Oscar for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Well, Bassett is certainly one of the most esteemed actors of our time. Her breakthrough role as Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to do With It?” earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress many years ago. Her film credits include “Boys n the Hood,” “Malcolm X,” “Waiting to Exhale,” “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” “Music of the Heart,” “Sunshine State,” “Black Panther,” “Mission Impossible,” and the list goes on and on and on. She also has TV credits, including “The Rosa Park Story,” “American Horror Story,” and of course “9-1-1.” So congratulations to our queen, Angela Bassett.

Dionne Warwick is finally getting the Kennedy Center Honors

Singer and executive producer Dionne Warwick appears during a rehearsal for the touring show “Hits! The Musical” Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, in Clearwater, Fla. On the same note, it’s about time. Dionne Warwick is finally getting the Kennedy Center Honors. Even Dionne said about time. Well, it seems the committee hasn’t given her too much love since her response because for some reason, I don’t see her in any of the photos of the recipients, begging the question, what’s up with that?

Hey, at 83, Dionne was a big star by the time John F. Kennedy became president. Like I said, it’s about time.
