Hollywood Live: Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury in Disney’s mini-series “Secret Invasion.” Now, you know, Fury is a fictional character based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name from way back in the day of 1963.

Well, Fury is depicted as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., who creates and enacts the Avengers’ initiatives as a means of protecting Earth from significant threats. And even though many people have played this character over the years, Samuel L. Jackson has made it his own.

Here’s Samuel L. Jackson, in his own words, describing the Nick Fury role:

“I’ve always wanted to be a human Nick Fury. I always thought I was. I mean, I realized that there is a perception of Nick, as you know, being, sort of a cold fish in ways. But the only thing that he does is run hot or stay cold. So it’s kind of great to find him in the position that we find him in this particular series, coming back to Earth after what I believe or perceive to be six years of absence after the Blip, and seeing the profound effect and damage that absence has done to him or what happened in his head because he was gone and trying to figure it out. And coming back and having people tell him he’s not the same person that he was before. And him being smart enough to believe it and try and figure out a way to solve the problems that are presented to him as the old Nick Fury. And he finds, he seeks ways to find himself or to get back to the powerful person that he used to be.”

Nick Fury has appeared in 11 MCU films as of 2023, beginning with an appearance in the post-credit scene of “Ironman” back in 2008.

He also appeared in two episodes of the television series, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” and yes, that is why Samuel L. Jackson is the hardest-working man in show business.
