The NAACP Image Award nominations have been announced today, with our favorite Black entertainers being honored for their achievements in film, television, music and directing. The awards show will be broadcast live from the Pasadena Civic Center on Feb. 22, airing on BET and CBS. The theme for this year’s show is, “Our Stories, Our Culture, Our Excellence.” While a host is yet to be announced, Queen Latifah has graced the stage the previous two ceremonies.
“The Piano Lesson” steals the motion picture categories with 14 nominations, including nods to director Malcolm Washington and stars John David Washington, Danielle Deadwyler, Samuel L. Jackson, Corey Hawkins and Skylar Aleece Smith. The Netflix film is nominated for outstanding motion picture, alongside Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” Paramount’s “Bob Marley: One Love,” Netflix’s “The Six Triple Eight” and Universal’s “Wicked.”
Ayo Edebiri, star of Hulu’s “The Bear” is the most-nominated performer with five, leading the television and streaming categories with three for her role. As well as one for guest hosting “Saturday Night Live,” and for outstanding voiceover for “Inside Out 2.” Keke Palmer is close behind with four nominations: Entertainer of the Year, as the host of “Password,” for her voiceover performance in “The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy,” and for her podcast “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer.”
Other nominees include Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, who is triple nominated for her roles in “Nickel Boys,” “Exhibiting Forgiveness” and “The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat”. Taraji P. Henson scored nominations for “Fight Night,” hosting the 2024 BET Awards and her children’s book “You Can Be a Good Friend (No Matter What!)”; Colman Domingo for “Sing Sing” and “The Madness”; Kerry Washington (“The Six Triple Eight” and “UnPrisoned”); Lupita Nyong’o (“A Quiet Place: Day One” and “The Wild Robot”); Angela Bassett (“9-1-1” and her voiceover role in “Orion and the Dark”); David Alan Grier (“The American Society of Magical Negroes” and “St. Denis Medical”); Sanaa Lathan (“The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat” and “Young. Wild. Free”); Cree Summer (“Abbott Elementary” and her voiceover roles in “Rugrats” and “The Legend of Vox Machina”) and Aaron Pierre (“Rebel Ridge” and “Mufasa: The Lion King”).
In the music categories, GloRilla dominated the nominations with six (including outstanding new artist), followed closely by Doechii, Kendrick Lamar and Usher, each with four nods respectively. Beyoncé landed three nominations for her “Cowboy Carter” album.
