Turner Elected State Representative Nov.3

Mauree Turner won election to the Legislature on Tuesday, becoming the first Muslim to serve as state representative. She will become the next District 88 legislature. Miss Turner 27, is a community organizer , for the local American Civil Liberties Union. ” For me, this means a lot,” she told reporters Tuesday night. ” I have lived my whole life in margins.”

Miss Turner’s decisive victory Tuesday might came as no surprise in the solidly predominantly Democratic State House District 88. Miss Turner was raised in a Muslim and Baptist household, and is a member of the Masjid Mu’Min mosque in Oklahoma City
