Community Mourns DJ Black

OKLAHOMA CITY — Beloved local DJ, husband, father, and motorcycle enthusiast Michael Cobb – also known as DJ Black – passed away on Thursday, May 14, at the age of 53.
A statement from his family stated that Cobb died “unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep.”

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved DJ Black, a cherished voice on Power 103.5 and OKC Heart and Soul 92.1 & 1140 for the past 25 years. Michael Joseph Cobb was born on July 18, 1972, in Virginia. He spent his childhood growing up in California before eventually making Oklahoma City his home, dividing much of his adult life between Oklahoma and the places that helped shape him. Wherever Michael went, he carried with him his unmistakable presence, his deep love for music and animals, his loyalty to his family and friends, and a spirit that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
“Music was more than a profession to him — it was part of who he was,” reads the statement from his family. “Through his voice, his talent, and his passion, he connected with countless people and became a familiar and beloved figure in the community.”

He is survived by his parents, Rudy and Gayle Cobb of Oklahoma City; his beloved wife, Kylee Miner of Oklahoma City; his siblings, Tamika Cobb and Leslie Cobb of Oklahoma City; and his children, Samara Cobb of Oklahoma City, Kalista Clay of Oklahoma City, Ashton Fournier of Oklahoma City, and Jared Miner of Twentynine Palms, California.
He also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren — Jaylee, Jetta, Jamison, and Eden — along with four nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and great-nephews who will continue to carry his memory forward.
“Michael will be remembered most for making everyone feel deeply loved, his laugh, and the support he gave to anyone who needed it,” reads the statement from his family. “He believed in family, loyalty, music, and showing up for the people he loved. His legacy is not only in the work he did, or the titles he carried, but in the countless lives he touched, the laughter he created, the guidance he gave, and the memories that will live on forever. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, brothers, listeners, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“While his family and friends mourn the tremendous loss of his physical presence, they also celebrate a life that was meaningful, soulful and deeply loved,” the statement continued. “Michael’s voice may be quiet now, but his spirit will continue to ride beside those who loved him, forever echoing through the music, the sound of a motorcycle. the memories, and the love he leaves behind.”
