David Martin Appointed First Black Superintendent & CEO of Metro Tech

OKLAHOMA CITY — During a Special Meeting held on April 6, the Metro Tech Board of Education appointed Deputy Superintendent David Martin as the next Superintendent & CEO of Metro Tech. His appointment will become effective July 1, 2026. Martin becomes the ninth superintendent of Metro Tech and will succeed Aaron Collins, who recently announced his resignation.
“I am deeply honored to be selected to serve as Superintendent and CEO of Metro Tech,” Martin said. “This institution has shaped my career and my purpose, and I am committed to ensuring it continues to transform lives through education and workforce opportunity. Together, we will build on our strong foundation, expand access to high-quality programs, and strengthen partnerships that drive economic growth for our community.”
With more than 25 years of progressive leadership at Metro Tech, Martin brings deep institutional knowledge and a proven track record of advancing student success, strengthening workforce pipelines, and driving organizational excellence.
Currently serving as Deputy Superintendent, Martin has provided executive leadership across instructional, operational, and human resources divisions. He has led major initiatives that expanded program access and capacity, including launching Metro Tech’s first Multimedia Journalism program through a $150,000 grant, embedding cosmetology programming at Douglass High School to address waitlists, and expanding barbering programs to reach near-capacity enrollment.
Throughout his career, Martin has demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. His leadership has included implementation of the Baldrige Framework, oversight of district-wide operations including finance, IT, and facilities, and development of strategic workforce partnerships with industry leaders and community organizations.

Martin holds a bachelor’s degree from Langston University, an Oklahoma superintendent certification, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Central Oklahoma. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education degree at East Central University. He is also a recipient of the Oklahoma Association for Career and Technical Education Arch Alexander Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to CareerTech program development.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Martin’s appointment marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first Black Superintendent in not only Metro Tech’s history but also in the entire Oklahoma CareerTech system.
