Freedom Center Reopens with Ribbon Cutting

OKLAHOMA CITY — After years of restoration, strategic planning, and community collaboration, the Freedom Center of Oklahoma City reopened with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 12.
For more than four decades, the Freedom Center, located at 2609 Martin Luther King Avenue in Oklahoma City, stood as a beacon of community empowerment, serving as home base for Clara Luper, the NAACP Youth Council, and countless others who championed change, transformed Oklahoma, and left a mark on the nation.
On Dec. 12, the Freedom Center reopened with an event featuring several local speakers, a ribbon cutting, a musical performance by Justin Echols. Inside, visitors were offered a slice of a custom cake to celebrate the event. The Freedom Center now has merchandise, including t-shirts, to sell to further its mission – educating, empowering, and enlightening the community about the past, present, and future of the Civil Rights Movement in Oklahoma.
The project is funded through MAPS 4.
