OKLAHOMA CITY — Fred Montgomery, a beloved community leader in Oklahoma City known as the “Hood Doctor,” passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14.
Montgomery, author of “Raising a King,” was 53 years old.
“He was a community leader that led by example, providing resources and hope for everyone – but specifically young men,” said Kevin Perry, President of Perry Publishing and Broadcasting Co.
“Woke up to devastating news that my friend Fred Montgomery aka @hood_dr_51 went to sleep last night and never woke up” Oklahoma City community entrepreneur and author Massod Haqq posted on social media. “Fred was a true ally and friend to anyone trying to bring positive change to the community, especially if it impacted young people.”
A GoFundMe has been created to help Montgomery’s wife Wyjuana and the family.
“The Montgomery Family will be in need of additional monetary assistance beyond the Homegoing,” reads the GoFundMe description. “Living on one income and the perplexities surrounding incidental expenses necessitates this GoFundMe…As Fred the Hood dr would say, this is real where the rubber meets the road! Wyjuana and the children appreciate your hearts of generosity.”
