TULSA, Okla. — Public servant, community leader, and social justice advocate Mareo Johnson is running for Tulsa City Council District 1.
“I’m all in on the fight for liberty. District 1 deserves leadership that listens to the people, protects our freedoms, and stands up for our community’s future,” Johnson said.
Mareo Johnson is a Tulsa native who’s spent the majority of his life in District 1. He is Founder of Seeking The Kingdom Ministries, and the Founder of the Black Lives Matter Tulsa chapter, an organization that strives to achieve social justice in all areas. A true public servant, he formerly served as Social Justice Chair and also served as Advocacy Chair of the United Nations Association of Eastern Oklahoma’s Board. He is currently a board member of the North Regional Health Center Community Advisory Board.
Previously, he served as Legal Redress Chair of the NAACP Tulsa Branch #6143, and President of NAACP Tulsa #6143 Branch, until he stepped aside to run for District 1 City Council. He’s former Workforce Chair of the North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative (NTEDI). He also served on the board of directors for the Young People of the Next Generation (YPNG) before it merged with the Tulsa Consortium of Higher Education.
Mareo is now President of the United Nations Association of Eastern Oklahoma. He is a strong advocate for Criminal justice Reform, Economic Development, Police/Community Relations, and Public Safety. Mareo is also a Mayoral Appointee for the Sales Tax Overview Committee for the City of Tulsa, and an Advisory Board member for the BMX foundation. He is also a mentor who encourages adults and youth to stay out of gangs and shows them ways to elevate their lives so they stay out of prison.
He is also a recording artist who writes about positivity and real-life struggles. Mareo is a graduate of Victory College and studied Psychology/Social Psychology at Tulsa Community College. He has been featured in the Racial Literacy book “Tell Me Who You Are” that’s used by thousands of teachers in the U.S. and abroad and has been featured in Tulsa People’s Magazine, Business Insider, The Voice and others.

City Commissioner – 7 years on the City of Tulsa’s Sales Tax Overview Committee.
Advocated against the Demolition of Ben Hill Recreation Center, now Reed’s Community Foundation.
Assisted 36th St. North Businesses with construction issues and the future of their businesses.
Supporter and Advocate for the Vision 2025 Packet Plan.
Helped build Tulsa’s A21 Walk for Freedom Movement, which advocates against human trafficking and violence against women.
Young People of the Next Generation (YPNG) Board of Directors and Program Instructor before merging with Higher Education Consortium.
2026 Community Investment Panel approved funding recommendations for Street School, City Year Tulsa, and KIPP Tulsa.
UN Association of United States of America National Councilmen.
Oklahoma Model UN Advisor
Served as NAACP Oklahoma State 2nd Vice President.
Serves on NAACP Oklahoma State Conference Economic Development Committee.
Advocated for the wrongful conviction of Corey Atchison
Advocated for Black Lives Matter Honorary Street for 2 miles on North Peoria.
Served as Tour Guide for Historic Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.
Co-MC and presenter of the history nuggets for the Black Wall Street Biker Rally 2023 and 2024.
Supported The Mayor’s Probe of possible mass graves from 1921 Race Massacre, first meeting held at Morning Star Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in 2018.

Organized Stop The Killing, Start The Healing Events, to help Stop The Violence.
Worked with the Mayor, TPD, and Community Leaders on the 77 Recommendations concerning Community and Police Relations.
Served as volunteer for OKDOC – Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Served as volunteer for Kids Against Hunger.
Community initiatives, youth outreach, and feeding the hungry with Seeking The Kingdom Ministries, Victory Church, Dream Center, and Catholic Charities.
