Mayor Holt Celebrates Thunder with NBA Championship Signage

OKLAHOMA CITY — On Tuesday, Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt commemorated the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2025 NBA Championship with new signage inside and outside of OKC Will Rogers International Airport, as well as entrance signs at I-35, I-40 and I-44.

“Millions of people come to or pass through our championship city every year, and we don’t want them to forget what Oklahoma City and the Thunder have accomplished,” Mayor Holt said.  “We began working on this project in July to ensure that there is a visual legacy for our championship.  Even though today we enter a new season and a new chapter, our first NBA championship is sports immortality, and it deserves a legacy across OKC.  I am grateful to our city team, as well as our partners at the airport, ODOT and OTA for making this a reality.”

Fourteen championship banners are featured throughout OKC Will Rogers International Airport, joined by a 20-by-30-foot outdoor sign along northbound Terminal Drive as drivers exit the airport.

And, thanks to a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, large highway signs welcoming travelers to the home of the NBA Champions have been installed at the city limits while entering OKC on I-35, I-44 and I-40, a total of six interstate signs.  The sign for I-44 westbound is along Turner Turnpike and in the jurisdiction of OTA.

“I want to especially thank Jeff Mulder and his team at the airport, Secretary Tim Gatz of ODOT and Joe Echelle of OTA, and their respective teams,” Mayor Holt said.
