Mr. Russell M. Perry to be Honored at Douglass Homecoming Oct. 10

OKLAHOMA CITY — Douglass High School’s Homecoming 2025 will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, and Mr. Russell Perry – founder of The Black Chronicle and Perry Publishing & Broadcasting Company – will be the Grand Marshall of the parade.  A ceremony honoring Mr. Perry will be held at the basketball statue immediately after the parade.

Mr. Perry, who graduated from Douglass High School in 1957, played quarterback on the Douglass High School team that played the first integrated high school football game in state history, in 1955.  Mr. Perry went on to create Oklahoma’s largest independent radio group and one of the largest minority-owned independent media companies in the nation.

The theme for this year’s homecoming is “Once Upon A Trojan.”

The coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.

The Homecoming Parade will start at 1:00 p.m. and will travel south on MLK from NE 16th Street down to NE 8th Street.

During the game, the Douglass High School Alumni Marching Band will perform “Marching for the Maestro,” a tribute to Mr. Andre Francisco, a beloved long-time music teacher who passed away on Aug. 30.
