OKCPS Celebrates Academic Honor Recipients

On May 4, Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) hosted a special reception honoring students and schools recognized for outstanding academic achievement at the state and national level. The celebration highlighted recipients of the Academic All-State Award, Oklahoma Academic Scholar distinction, Oklahoma Seal of Biliteracy, and schools earning AP Honor Roll recognition.
Two students, Megna Ponnavolvu and Amasha Samaraweera were celebrated as Oklahoma Academic All-State recipients which reflects Oklahoma’s highest honors for public high school seniors, recognizing excellence in academics, leadership, and service.
Forty Seniors were recognized as Oklahoma Academic Scholars for demonstrating exceptional dedication in the classroom through strong academic performance and college readiness achievements. These students received graduation cords signifying their accomplishment.
Thirty-Seven students (including one Sophomore!) earned the Oklahoma Seal of Biliteracy and were celebrated for demonstrating proficiency in English and at least one additional language, reflecting their commitment to global learning and communication. These students also received graduation cords signifying their accomplishment.
Classen SAS High School at Northeast received AP Honor Roll recognition for expanding access to rigorous coursework and supporting student success in Advanced Placement programs.
Board members and district leaders praised the students for their determination and commitment to excellence. The evening also recognized the vital role teachers, counselors, support staff, school leaders, and families play in student achievement. Through their guidance, encouragement, and daily investment in students, Team OKCPS continues to create opportunities for scholars to succeed at the highest level.
