Rita Maxwell Announces Campaign for Mayor of Midwest City

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. — Rita Maxwell, public servant and current Midwest City Councilmember representing Ward 3, has officially announced her candidacy for mayor of Midwest City.  The primary election for the Midwest City mayoral race is scheduled for Feb. 10, 2026.

With a platform centered on transparency, modernization, and equitable growth, Maxwell said she is committed to building a city government that works for every resident.

“Midwest City has incredible potential — but only when everyone has a seat at the table,” Maxwell said.  “We deserve a city government that is open, accessible, and focused on solutions that benefit all of us.”

Maxwell said she believes that city government should operate with the people, not behind closed doors.  As mayor, Maxwell said she would champion open communication and expand opportunities for residents to participate through boards, commissions, and hands-on community engagement.  Her vision includes a more accessible City Hall where residents feel informed, included, and empowered.

Her platform is as follows:

Modern Codes for a Stronger City

During her time on the City Council, Maxwell has seen firsthand how outdated city codes can frustrate residents and slow responsible development.  She will lead a comprehensive review to update and simplify city codes so they are citizen-friendly, easy to navigate, and supportive of growth that aligns with the community’s values.

No Neighborhood Left Behind

Maxwell’s plan ensures that every neighborhood — north, south, east, and west — receives the attention and investment it deserves.  From infrastructure to community services, she is committed to making sure improvements are felt citywide, not just in select areas.  Her belief is simple: progress must reach every corner of Midwest City to truly move the community forward.

A Leader Rooted in Community

Maxwell’s years on the Midwest City Council have given her a deep understanding of the inner workings of the city she loves.  She has identified key areas where increased accessibility, community involvement, and improved communication can strengthen Midwest City’s future.

A longtime homeowner and resident, Maxwell is also the proud mother of four grown children and grandmother to three grandchildren.  Her commitment to public service is grounded in her love for family and her belief in creating a city they, and all families, can be proud of.

Moving Midwest City Forward, Together

“With more transparency, smarter codes, and a commitment to every neighborhood, we can build a brighter, stronger Midwest City,” Maxwell said.  “I’m ready to lead with integrity, collaboration, and a vision that includes all of us.”
