OKLAHOMA COUNTY — Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III has been elected to the Treasurer’s position within the Major County Sheriffs of America.

Sheriff Tommie Johnson III will officially take office in January 2026.

The Major County Sheriffs of America is a professional law enforcement association including the largest Sheriff’s Offices representing the largest counties in our country. The member sheriffs are dedicated to preserving the highest integrity in law enforcement and the elected Office of the Sheriff. The membership represents over 130 million citizens across the nation.

Sheriff Johnson is an Oklahoma City native; a decorated law enforcement professional and experienced leader. The son of a grocery store butcher, Johnson attended Oklahoma City Public Schools his entire life. He went to Hillcrest Elementary; Northeast Middle School; and graduated from U.S. Grant High School where he and his wife, Amanda, were classmates.

Sheriff Johnson was elected to office in 2020 and brought with him a long list of proposed changes he wanted to see implemented under his leadership. ALL of those changes were put into place in the first year, dramatically improving the efficiency of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s office; morale among staff and the relationship with the community we serve.

“As leaders in our field, the members of this organization stand ready to address the most pressing public safety issues facing our communities, states, and nation,” said Sheriff Bill Brown, President of the Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA), who has served as Santa Barbara County’s Sheriff-Coroner since January 2007.

“The Major County Sheriffs of America represents those men and women responsible for protecting and serving over 100 million Americans,” Brown said. “As sheriffs, we are directly accountable to the people we serve. Our members meet regularly to share their diverse experiences, extraordinary knowledge, and innovative solutions to difficult problems. The MCSA provides a platform for us to come together, discuss key issues and speak with one voice as we share and adopt best practices, enhance public safety and security, and improve the quality of life in our communities. We also play a key role in influencing the development of legislation that protects Americans and supports America’s law enforcement officers, and in opposing legislation that is detrimental to public safety.”
