State Rep. Aletia Timmons Talks About Her First Months in Office

OKLAHOMA CITY — Six months into her first term representing House District 97 in the Oklahoma Legislature, state Rep. Aletia Timmons reached out to her constituents to report on the progress she’s made.
The letter she sent to constituents reads as follows:
Dear Constituent:
Let me begin by thanking you for your support and my election as State Representative of House District 97. I am humbled and proud to have this amazing opportunity to serve you. After the election on June 10, 2025, I was sworn in on June 18, 2025. I immediately began working.
My first task was to meet the deadline for Interim Studies, which was early July 2025. Interim Studies are legislative hearings on issues and potential areas for legislation for the upcoming session in 2026, which begins in February. I asked the Speaker for approval for six Interim Studies. The six areas were affordable housing, reading readiness, workforce development, repetitive scam calls, treatment courts and mental health, and accessible and affordable daycare, which were areas I heard from you on the campaign trail. All six were approved by the Speaker. So, from July through this month I have gathered experts in these areas and conducted hearings which were livestreamed.
Beginning in October, I started a series of town halls in specific areas of the district to keep in touch, answer questions and provide personal accessibility for the District. In the meantime, I have visited constituents in the community and in their homes, met with colleagues and resources in the District, and provided responses and solutions for constituents through calls, emails and personal contact. I have enjoyed and been inspired by those meetings and opportunities to connect, and will continue doing so.
When SNAP benefits were illegally withheld by the President and Congress, the Legislative Black Caucus and Democrats demanded that the Governor and our colleagues across the aisle join us in protecting Oklahomans from hunger. We stepped up to donate, volunteer and collaborate to ensure that our most vulnerable could eat. Once again, Oklahomans collectively stepped up to feed people in need – everyday heroes that are the best of us!
Right now, we are in the process of writing and submitting bills for consideration in the upcoming legislative session, which begins February 2026. If you have ideas or concerns, I am available. Please feel welcome to call, visit, or email with any questions, concerns or ideas. Now, back to work!!
