Supts. Polk, Robinson-Woods Featured at Langston Lecture Series

LANGSTON, Okla. — Superintendent of Oklahoma City Public Schools Dr. Jamie Polk, Superintendent of Millwood Public Schools Dr. Cecilia Robinson-Woods and Vice President of Marketing at Live Nation Entertainment Tyler Phillips spoke at Langston University’s annual Ira & Rubye Hibler Hall Endowed Lecture Series on Tuesday, Feb. 10. This year’s event was held in the C.F. Gayles Atrium on the Langston Campus.
The lecture series is hosted by the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, and it honors distinguished LU alumni Ira D. Hall and Rubye Hibler Hall and their commitment to education. The event’s program featured an address from Phillips and a panel discussion with Dr. Polk and Dr. Robinson-Woods.
Phillips is the Halls’ granddaughter, and she has served in her role as vice president of marketing at Live Nation Entertainment since 2022. She has more than 15 years of experience in the industry working on partnerships, brand management and integrated marketing. Her professional background includes leadership and brand management roles at Bacardi, and she is committed to facilitating team collaboration and building meaningful partnerships to achieve business objectives effectively.
Dr. Polk has dedicated more than 30 years to the field of education. As the superintendent of OKCPS, she oversees a community of 31,151 students and thousands of staff members. Her leadership is defined by a commitment to both academic excellence and the well-being of every individual in her care. She views her role not merely as an administrator, but as a servant leader responsible for the growth of the next generation.
Dr. Robinson-Woods has served as the superintendent of MPS since 2013, and she has dedicated herself to ensuring students are prepared to excel as “champions” within the academic setting, the community and in their future endeavors. Her tenure is marked by significant advancements, including improvements in instructional quality, increases in school report card ratings, facility upgrades, process streamlining and a heightened prioritization of student outcomes at Millwood.
Langston University students, faculty, staff and community members had the opportunity to hear from these distinguished guests about their experiences and the lessons they’ve learned over the course of their careers.
The Hall Lecture Series is part of LU’s Black History Month celebrations. Past speakers have included Philip Keith Armstrong, the president and CEO of the Oklahoma Center for Community & Justice, and Traci Manuel, the 2023-24 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.
