Grambling State is possibly losing its starting quarterback.

Geremy Hickbottom announced in a lengthy social media post on Wednesday night his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

“This is not an easy decision to make because of my love for the G,” Hickbottom wrote on Twitter. … “I will be entering the portal as a grad student and taking my talents to another institution.”

It has been a rough start to the season for Hickbottom and Grambling. The redshirt senior has completed 66 percent of his passes for 380 yards to go along with one touchdown and one interception through three games this spring.

Hickbottom has also split time with backup Elijah Walker, who has thrown 38 passes for one touchdown and one interception playing at some point during each of Grambling’s games.

The news comes during a period when the Grambling football team is in the midst of turmoil. Not only is Grambling off to its worst start since 2014, but the coaching staff has also undergone facelifts, too.

Two weeks ago offensive coordinator Mark Orlando resigned. This past Sunday it was reported that interim offensive coordinator Kendrick Nord decided to move on from the program after a lackluster performance by the unit in the Tigers’ 48-21 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Earlier on Wednesday, the program announced it was halting all football operations due to a COVID-19 outbreak within the team. Grambling current sits at 0-3 in the SWAC West.
