“The Burial” Starring Jamie Foxx, Airing on Amazon Prime Video
Based on a true story, “The Burial” follows the story of a Mississippi-based former politician and funeral home owner Jerry O’Keefe, played by Tommy Lee Jones, who hires Florida’s Willie E. Gary played by Jamie Foxx, a flashy attorney, known for quoting scriptures in the courtroomto sue a large, corporate predatory funeral company that attempts to take ownership of his family business after he reneges on a mountain of debt. Despite Gary having a track record and reputation for having never lost a court case as a personal injury lawyer, he had no corporate law experience. Throughout the film, the pair contend with personality clashes and letdowns but ultimately, they find triumph both the legal system and as lifelong friends. “The Burial” will begin airing on Amazon Prime starting October 12, 2023.
Jekalyn Carr Releases New Song “God of War” from Upcoming Album
Grammy-nominated, Stellar Award-winning gospel artist Jekalyn Carr will be releasing her self-titled album JEKALYN on October 20, the first-full release in four years. On October 6, 2023, she released the first single from the album, “God Of War” featuring Elevation Worship and Elevation Rhythm. “God of War,” contrary to the name, is a message full of inspiration, encouragement and restoration and reflects the maturity of Jekalyn’s faith that has inspired since the release of “Greater is Coming,” when she was just 15. Currently, Jekalyn is also nominated for a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for her collaboration with Blanca on New Day.
Spin Awards Honoring Gospel Radio Announcers in Atlanta
The 7th Annual Spin Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, honoring those who nationally spin the gospel message. The 2023 Spin Awards will be held on October 12–14 at the Aurora Theater in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The Spin Awards are the first and only organization to exclusively honor gospel DJ’s and announcers. The event brings together radio, artists, event planners, record label executives, marketing directors, and publishers from the Christian gospel industry and will feature free events on Thursday and Friday.
Vincent Bohanan & SOV Release New Music on Hez House Music
Vincent Bohanan & Sound of Victory Fellowship Choir (SOV), the first artist signed to Bishop Hezekiah Walker’s Hez House Entertainment, released “Live in Dallas,” recorded at the Concord Church in Dallas, Texas. “Live in Dallas,” features 11 tracks and was released on Friday, October 6, 2023, making it the group’s second release on the label and fourth project overall. Pastor Bohanan describes the album as SOV ‘all grown up.’ “We were still in our teens and early twenties when we recorded our prior albums. On the last album, I was only in my first year of being a pastor, a lot has changed since our last recording. ‘Live in Dallas’ is a more mature sound with the choir, with the band and with me.”

The 8th Annual Avidity Awards Heads to New Orleans
The Avidity Awards, brainchild of founder and CEO Derrick Huggins, is an event that celebrates independent gospel music. The awards ceremony celebrates the careers of independent gospel artists, industry professionals, and creatives, and aims to expand the reach of gospel music to non-traditional audiences. The 8th Annual Avidity Awards will be held in New Orleans from October 12–15, 2023. The live taping will take place on Saturday, October 14, at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie, Louisiana, and will be hosted by BSlade, who will also perform for the event. This year’s event will emphasize mental health awareness in the Black community.
