Pastor Mike Jr. Takes Home 8 Stellar Wins

Pastor Mike Jr., “Impossible”

Pastor Mike Jr., dubbed the “new king of Urban Inspiration,” swept the 38th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards, with a total of 8 category wins for his work on the album “Winning.” The Birmingham native also made history by winning the title of “Artist of the Year” for the third time in a row. Pastor Mike Jr. kicked off the night with an opening performance medley of the Billboard Gospel #1 single, “Miracles” with Kierra Sheard Kelly followed by another fan favorite. “Impossible.” The 38th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards will air Sunday, August 6 at 8/7C on BET.

Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. Steps Down as President of Rainbow PUSH Coalition

Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. Retires from Rainbow Push Coalition

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition officially transferred leadership of its organization on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, to Reverend Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes III, who will now serve as the organization’s next president. Rev. Dr. Haynes has served as the senior pastor of Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, for the past 40 years. He was formally introduced during the Rainbow PUSH Coalition’s 57th annual conference on Sunday, July 16th. Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr.  who has served as the Founder and leader of the Coalition, made the decision to step down because of his ongoing journey with Parkinson’s disease.

Rev. Jackson will pivot from his role as president and will continue to serve as emeritus. Rev. Jackson plans to elevate his life’s work by teaching ministers in the social justice movement. He said “I am looking forward to this next chapter where I will continue to focus on economic justice, mentorship, and teaching ministers how to fight for social justice. I will still be very involved in the organization and am proud that we have chosen Rev. Dr. Haynes as my successor.”

4A Productions will be presenting “United We Stand gospel concert on Wednesday, July 26th at 7:30pm with Grammy-winning gospel singer and host Le’Andria Johnson at St. John Baptist Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. The event, which follows the theme that it is named for, calls for unity within the NJ community and will feature an amazing lineup of performing gospel artists Darrell Walls, Alic Walls, Melvin Crispell III, Zacardi Cortez, and Rich Tolbert Jr.

Walker has been hosting choirs from all across the country at local churches that showcase the amazing talents that converge to celebrate the tradition of church choirs. Walker began hosting these chorale celebrations annually during Stellar Awards and is partnering with the National Convention of Gospel Choirs & Choruses (NCGCC) to host Choir Fest New Orleans in the heart of the Big Easy during their 90th Annual National Convention.
