Scholarships were awarded to three-year law students by the Oklahoma City Association of Black Lawyers.
The Melvin Combs Jr. Memorial Scholarships were awarded during a May 4 event.
Joshua D. Hillard of Oklahoma City University, Sara N. Franco of the University of Oklahoma and Jon Paul Ray of the University of Tulsa were the scholarship recipients.
Each recipient received funds to defray costs related to taking the Oklahoma Bar examination.
The scholarships are named for the Oklahoma City attorney “who dedicated his time tutoring Black law students and helped, without compensation or recognition, more than 100 students prepare for the bar exam,” a statement said.
The scholarship fund was made possible through donations from members of the Oklahoma City Association of Black Lawyers and the McAfee & Taft Law Firm.
