New Pennsylvania lawmakers sworn into Congress

(The Center Square) – Three new Republicans from Pennsylvania swore in on Capitol Hill on Friday.

U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, and Reps. Robert Bresnahan Jr. and Ryan Mackenzie joined the 119th Congress in Washington, D.C., after flipping three Democratic seats in the November general election.

Bresnahan and Mackenzie represent neighboring districts in the eastern half of the state, bordering New York and New Jersey. The narrow defeats toppled incumbents Susan Wild and Matt Cartwright, bringing the Pennsylvania delegation to 10-7 in favor of Republicans.

Meanwhile, McCormick bested two-term Sen. Bob Casey Jr. by just 16,000 votes. The incumbent Democrat waited 17 days to concede amid a controversial recount as local officials in four counties voted to accept ballots with signature and dating errors.
