Pennsylvania experiencing statewide 911 outage

(The Center Square) – Pennsylvania began experiencing an intermittent statewide outage of 911 call centers on Friday.

It’s unclear how many counties have been impacted, though agencies have directed residents, via social media posts, to call nonemergency numbers in the meantime.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency said it is “working with technical experts to resolve the issue and restore service as quickly as possible.”

Gov. Josh Shapiro said on X he’d been briefed on the issue, which he said is only happening in some parts of the state.

“We are on top of the issue and working to restore full service as quickly as possible. In the meantime — stay calm, follow the directions of PEMA and local authorities, and do not call 911 for any reason other than an emergency. Updates to follow,” he said.
