(The Center Square) – Virginia’s General Assembly will be delayed until Monday due to a water outage in Richmond, as announced late Tuesday evening.
The outage stemmed from Monday’s winter storm that knocked out power at the city’s water treatment plant.
House Speaker Don Scott released a statement explaining the 2025 session would officially convene at noon and immediately recess.
“We are actively coordinating with local and statewide officials to support Richmond’s efforts to resolve the issue and restore water service to residents as quickly as possible,” Scott added.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin was due to give the annual State of the Commonwealth Address on Monday, but it has also been pushed back until Monday.
The city released an update late Tuesday afternoon saying that water production had been restored; however, water pressure continued to lag. A boil water advisory was in effect.
