Belleville man charged in attack during well-being check

A 31-year-old man faces charges after attacking investigators during a well-being check in Belleville.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, the attack happened during a well-being check of a child at the residence. While at the residence, police say the man attacked officers and an investigator from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer Jerry Butler dies

Funeral arrangements are being planned for Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer Jerry Butler, who died Thursday in Chicago at age 85.

Butler was the son of Mississippi sharecroppers who moved north to Chicago when Butler was 3. Along with childhood friend Curtis Mayfield, he helped found the Chicago-based Impressions.

Butler was a Cook County Commissioner from 1985 to 2018.

State seeks summer fishing instructors

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for instructors for 2025 summer fishing clinics at locations throughout Illinois for the department’s Urban Fishing Program.

Available spots are based in several counties, including Boone, Macon, Madison, McLean, Peoria, Sangamon, and St. Clair counties.

The Illinois Urban Fishing Program was established in 1985 to teach people of all ages to fish, to provide better local fishing opportunities, and to offer participants a greater appreciation for natural resources.
