Illinois quick hits: Burn bans continue; changing station mandate advances

Burn bans continue

Fire departments across Illinois are issuing burn bans as dry conditions are about to be exacerbated by high winds this weekend.

Under a ban, people are ordered to refrain from open burning of landscape, agricultural and household waste.

A grass fire in Macon County Wednesday spread and engulfed five buildings. Much of Illinois is expected to receive rain Friday night.

Changing station mandate advances

A Democratic plan in the Illinois House could require more venues to add baby changing tables to their restrooms.

The legislation would mandate that all hotels, schools, movie theatres, healthcare facilities and public parks install a baby changing station in their restroom.

Opponents said it would be extra costs for private companies. The proposal passed along party lines and will now go to the House floor for consideration.

Archery event Saturday

The 2025 Illinois State Archery Tournament is set for Saturday, March 22, at the Emerald Sports Complex in Mattoon.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Conservation Foundation have partnered with the National Archery in the Schools Program to support Illinois’ top young archers by awarding 12 $1,000 scholarships at the tournament.
