Ceasefire resolution ‘out of touch,’ consulate says
Chicago has become the largest city in the country to pass a Gaza ceasefire resolution. The symbolic resolution passed by in a tiebreaker vote cast by Mayor Brandon Johnson.
In addition to calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, the resolution seeks the unconditional release of all hostages and ensuring humanitarian aid access. The Israeli Consulate of Chicago condemned the resolution, calling it “out of touch.”
Laser strikes on planes
Data released by the Federal Aviation Administration shows the number of laser strikes on planes reported in Illinois increased by 48% last year.
There were 458 reported incidents last year compared to 309 times in 2022. Midway Airport recorded 36 laser strikes in 2023, while at O’Hare, officials recorded 17 laser strikes last year. Illinois is currently outpacing the national average.
Hardees closing several locations
Several locations of a fast food restaurant have closed in Illinois.
Before the closings, Hardees operated nearly 100 restaurants around the state. Numerous locations, including in Champaign, Decatur and Springfield, shut down this week.
A spokesperson for CKE Restaurants Holdings, which owns Hardee’s, confirmed the closings and thanked the communities for their patronage over the years.
