Chicago man charged in hospital stabbing
A Chicago man has been charged with injuring two hospital workers, including stabbing an emergency room doctor in the chest Monday.
Nathaniel Price, 36, was arrested less than 30 minutes after allegedly stabbing a 56-year-old emergency room doctor at Provident Hospital. The doctor was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital to be treated at their trauma center.
Niles man sentenced in fraud
A Cook County man has been sentenced to prison for scamming his way into more than $1.5 million in small business loans through the CARES Act.
Feroz Jalal, 51, of Niles, pleaded guilty last year to bank fraud and money laundering charges.
Prosecutors said Jalal submitted at least a dozen bogus PPP loan applications to lenders and the SBA, claiming to represent businesses he and others allegedly owned.
State’s investment earnings up 11%
Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced Wednesday that investment earnings on the state portfolio are up more than 11%.
The office reported that investment earnings stand at nearly $804 billion for the first six months of Fiscal Year 2025, which is an increase of $80 million.
According to state law, the Treasurer’s Office is prohibited from directly investing the state’s portfolio in the stock market.
