Chicago man convicting of supporting terrorists

A 41-year-old Chicago man faces a maximum of 130 years in federal prison after being convicted of conspiring to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.

Federal prosecutors announced the conviction of Ashraf Al Safoo for using social media to encourage attacks on enemies of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, and to recruit new members.

Illinois leaders respond to SCOTUS decisions

Illinois’ political leaders are reacting to two U.S. Supreme Court rulings Friday. The high court limited the scope of district court injunctions.

Illinois U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin said the ruling is a “blow to the separation of powers.”

Separately, the high court ruled parents can opt out of LGBTQ curriculum for their children. Illinois U.S. Rep. Mary Miller praised the ruling.

More licensures available online

More professional licensure applications can now be done online.

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced 18 more professions can now apply through the agency’s online licensing system, bringing the total to 46.

Among the added Friday were fingerprint vendor, marriage and family therapist and firearm instructor.
