Chicago man pleads guilty to SNAP fraud

A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to charges of stealing more than $1.5 million from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by using over 1,200 cards.

David Quinones, 44, pleaded guilty to a federal wire fraud charge. He admitted that from 2018 to 2023, he gave cash and other items to SNAP recipients in exchange for access to their cards and ID numbers. Quinones then used the cards to purchase various goods at stores, resold most of the goods and kept the proceeds for himself.

Three Illinois restaurants among top places to eat

Yelp has released its annual rankings of the “Top 100 Places to Eat” with three Illinois restaurants making the list. The rankings were determined by Yelp with input from its community of online reviewers.

Northbrook’s New Village Gastro Pub, which features Korean/Asian Fusion, came in at No. 22. The Lawrence Fish Market in Chicago was ranked at No. 54 and Virtue Restaurant, also in Chicago, came in at No. 71.

The nation’s top spot went to Holbox, a Mexican seafood restaurant in Los Angeles.
