Durbin pushes to prevent online drug sales
Illinois U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin is calling on major technology companies to take responsibility for preventing drug dealers from exploiting their platforms.
Durbin referenced the recent case of 16-year-old Cooper Davis, who died after purchasing a fentanyl-laced pill from a dealer on Snapchat.
During a Senate hearing, Durbin said there is a bipartisan effort to pass the Cooper Davis Act, a bill that would require tech companies to take a proactive stance against illicit drug sales.
‘Psychic’ pleads guilty
A Chicago woman who worked as a psychic has pleaded guilty to defrauding a customer by promising to remove a curse from the victim for $72,000.
According to CWB Chicago, 51-year-old Jennifer Williams entered her plea on a charge of theft by deception and received a two-year probation sentence.
Prosecutors said Williams, working as an “alleged psychic fortune teller,” tricked a 21-year-old Edgewater woman into believing that she was under a curse.
