Chicago police increase Trump Tower patrol
In the wake of the explosion outside of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, police have stepped up patrols around the president-elect’s property in Chicago.
One person died and seven more were injured Wednesday when explosive devices inside a Tesla truck caught fire and exploded outside Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel.
Chicago police say they have no intelligence about planned attacks like what happened in Las Vegas and New Orleans, but the department said it has increased patrols near Trump Tower in River North in response.
Trooper funeral Friday
Funeral services will be held Friday for a fallen Illinois State Trooper who was killed while on duty last week.
Clay Carns, 35, was clearing debris from Interstate-55 near Channahon when he was struck by a pickup truck. Police said the driver of the vehicle is facing charges related to Scott’s Law, which requires drivers to move over if an emergency vehicle is on the side of the road.
Carns served 11 years with ISP and is survived by his wife and two children.
Pet adoption fees
Veterans looking to adopt a dog or cat could have their fees waived.
Beginning Jan. 1, a new Illinois law allows an animal shelter or an animal control facility to waive the adoption fee for when a veteran, meeting certain criteria, is adopting a dog or a cat.
Across the state, pet adoption fees vary widely depending on the organization, ranging from $50 to $275.
