Illinois quick hits: Criminal alien sentenced; Illinois students win medals at SkillsUSA

Criminal alien sentenced

A 51-year-old Mexican national residing in Chicago was sentenced to six months in prison followed by one year of supervised release for felony reentry of a removed alien.

Federal prosecutors say Julio Zarate-Ocegueda was previously removed from the U.S. on two separate occasions, once in 2004 and again in 2005. His criminal history includes intent to terrorize, battery, criminal death threats along with multiple driving offenses.

Illinois students win medals at SkillsUSA

Nearly four dozen students from SkillsUSA Illinois finished in the top three spots of the organization’s national conference in Georgia last month.

Illinois students brought home 38 medals, including gold medals for automotive refinishing, automotive service, collision damage appraisal, entrepreneurship, engineering technology, medical assisting and related technical math.

Top lakefront properties

Three Illinois lakefronts made a list of most sought after properties across the country.

On the list of 186 lakefronts real estate platform Calgary Homes compiled through a survey of 3,000 Americans and Canadians, Fox Lake landed at No. 85. Lake Springfield ranked No. 122. Lake Sara in Effingham ranked No. 156.

The top lakefront in the country was Big Bear Lake in California.
